Solutions:

Question 1:

Sum of Income of 1998 and 2001 is 125 crores and sum of expenditures of 1998 and 2001 is also 125 crores.

Ans:- Choice 3.

Question 2:

Number of years profit earned = 4
In the year 2001, the expenditure is more than income.
Hence there is a loss
Required Ratio= 4: 1

Ans:- Choice 1

Question 3:

Salaries in 2002 = (40/100)(60) = 24 crores
Required percentage = (24/75)(100)= 32 %

Ans:- Choice 4.

Question 4:

Let the number of employees in 1998 be X
Profit per employee = X
Profit in 1998 = (60-50)=10 crores
(X)(X)= 10 crores= 10 X 10 to the power of seven
X= 10 to the power of four
Number of employes = 10,000

Ans:- Choice 4.

Question 5:

Income in 1998 is the least. Hence during the same year i.e., in 1998 only it is the least even when compared to the average income.

(Based on Equations, Ratio, Proportion and Variation)


Directions for Questions 1 to 7  : Each problem contains a question and two statements which give certain data. You have to select the correct answer from (1) to (4) depending on the sufficiency of the data given in the statement to answer the question.


Option 1: If statement I alone is sufficient to answer the question and statement II alone is not sufficient to answer the question

Options 2 :
If statement II alone is sufficient to answer the question and statement I alone is not sufficient to answer the question

Option 3: If statement I and II together are sufficient to answer to answer the question, but neither statement alone is sufficient.

Option 4: If statement I and II together are not sufficient to answer the question and additional data specific to the problem are needed.


1) What is the weight of the Prakash?

I. Prakash's weight is not less than 60 kgs.

II. If his weight is reduced by 5 kgs, his weight is not more than 55 kgs

 

2) What is the share of  X ?

I. X gets Rs. 2000 more than Y.

II. Y gets Rs. 4000.

 

3) What is the value of X ?

I. 3X+4Y = 18

II. 15X+20Y = 90

 

4) What is the total number of girls in the school ?

I. The number of boys in the school is 824.

II. The number of girls in the school is less than the number of boys.

 

5) In a shop there are apples of different sizes. What is the minimum cost of one apple ?

I. The cost of one kg of apples is Rs. 63.

II. The minimum number of apples that can be weighted per kg is 6.

 

6) Find the cost of six chairs and four tables.

I. The cost of two chairs and three tables is Rs. 360.

II. The cost of two tables and three chairs is Rs. 540.

 

7) Find the value of  XY+XZ+YZ+XYZ.

I. X+Y= 15

II. Z= XY= 42

 


Solutions:

Question 1:

From statement I, Prakesh's weight is 60 kg or more than 60 kg. But we cannot find the exact weight of Prakash.
Statement  II alone implies that Prakesh's weight is 60 kg or less than that. Again we cannot find exact weight of Prakash.
Using the both statements we can say Prakash's weight is 60 kg

Ans:- Option 3.

Question 2:

From Statement I, we have X= Y+2000
But we should know how much Y is getting, which is given in statement II

Therefore Using both the statements, we can say that X gets 2000+4000= Rs. 6000

Ans:- Option 3.

Question 3:

From Statement I, we have 3X+4Y= 18
As only one equation is available, there may be infinite values of X and Y satisfying this.
From statement II, we have 15X+20Y= 90; 3X+4Y= 18
Again Statement II alone is not sufficient.
Using both the statements also, we cannot find the exact value of X, as both the equations are linearly dependent.

Ans:- Option 4.

Question 4:

Statement I gives the number of boys, and hence not helpful to find the number of girls.
Statement II says that the number of boys is greater than the number of girls. But by what specific quantity they are more is not mentioned.
Using both the Statements also, We cannot find the number of girls.

Ans:- Options 4.

Question 5:

Statement I gives the price of one kg apples as Rs. 63 but we do not know the maximum number of apples we get per kg.
This Statement alone is not sufficient.
Statement II gives, the minimum number of apples per kg as 6. To find minimum cost of an apple we should know maximum number of apples per kg and cost of apples per kg.
This alone is not sufficient.
Using both the Statements also, we cannot find the minimum cost of one apple as we do not know the maximum number of apples we get per kg.

Ans:- Option 4.

Question 6:

 From Statement I, we have 2C+3T= 360.
But to find the cost of 6C+4T, we should know the cost of any of them. Therefore Statement I alone is not sufficient.
From Statement II, we have 2T+3C= 540.
Multiplying this equation by 2; we get 4T+6C= 1080

Statement II alone is sufficient.

Ans:- Option 2.

Question 7:

From Statement I, we have X+Y= 15. This alone is not sufficient to find the value of XY+XZ+YZ+XYZ, as we do not know about Z.
From Statement II, we have Z=XY=42

XY+Z(X+Y)+XYZ
42+42(X+Y)+42X42 But we do not know the value of X+Y. So second Statement alone is not sufficient.

Using both the Statements, we have,
XY+Z(X+Y)+XYZ
42+42(15)+42(42)

Ans:- Option 3.
