  • Mizoram team won the 68th Senior National Football Championship of Santosh Trophy by defeating Railways in the final played at Knchenjungha stadium in Siliguri, West Bengal in March 9, 2014.
  • Iran country's weightlifters have won the title of the 16th Asian Youth Weightlifting Championship, which was held in Thailand in March, 2014.
  • Pankaj Advani, the Indian cueist on 29 June 2014 won his maiden IBSF 6-Red World snooker title at Sharm el-Sheikh in Egypt. To win the title, he defeated Kacper Flilpiak of Poland in a game that lasted for an hour. 
  • FIFA on 9 July 2014 suspended Nigeria from all international football competitions with immediate effect. Nigeria was suspended on account of government interference in running Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
  • Petra Kvitova of Czechslovakia on 5 July 2014 won the women’s single of Wimbledon Tennis Open of 2014. To win her second title, she defeated the Canadian Eugenie Bouchard 6-3, 6-0.
  • Rafael Nadal (rank no. 1) of Spain won the French Open title 2014 for the ninth time on 8 June 2014. He is the first men to win five French Open titles in a row. He won against Novak Djokovic (rank no. 2) of Yugoslavia with 3-6, 7-5, 6-2, and 6-4 in the final.
  • Narayanaswami Srinivasan on 26 June 2014 was formally appointed as the first Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC) for a period of two years from 2014 to 2016. Mustafa Kamal of Bangladesh was named as the 11th President of the ICC. The new team will assume the office from 1 July 2014. 
  • The former Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Jitendra Singh, on March 5, 2014, inaugurated the Sports Authority of India National Cycling Academy (SAINCA) at Indira Gandhi Sports Complex(New Delhi).
  • Heena Sindhu, the Indian shooter on 7 April 2014 clinched the World’s Number One spot in 10 meters air pistol event. By achieving this fete, she became the first Indian pistol shooter to be ranked at the top position in the list.
  • Sachin Tendulkar on 27 May 2014 was selected as the goodwill ambassador of 35th National Games that is scheduled to be held in Kerala from January-February 2015. The games will be held in seven cities of the state.
  • Sourav Kothari won the National Billiards Championship 2014, which was held in Luknow on February.
  • Indian women team won the three ODI series 3-0 by defeating Sri Lankan women team. In the last and final ODI played at ACD-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam, India defeated the Lankan team by 95 runs. The ODI series will be followed by three Twenty20 matches to start from 25 January 2013
  • Indian judokas won 12 medals at the seventh South Asia Judo Championships held in Kathmandu, Nepal from 10 April 2014 to 13 April 2014. The 12 medal haul included 10 Gold, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze medal.
  • Jitu Rai became World Number 1 pistol shooter in the men's 10m air pistol category. This was revealed by the latest rankings released by the International Shooting Federation (ISSF) on 1 July 2014.
  • India will host the World Bridge Championship for Bermuda Bowl(men) and Venice Cup(women) in October, 2014 for the first time.
  • The 151st edition of the Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack published on 9 April 2014 carries a picture of Sachin Tendulkar on its cover page. With this Sachin Tendulkar, the Indian cricketer, who retired from International cricket in November 2013.
  • Karnataka state has won the Irani Cup for the fifth time beating Rest of India team by an innings and 222 runs in the final held at Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru on February.
  • The 2014 Winter Olympic (Officially known as the XXII Olympic Winter Games) were a major international multi-sport event held in Sochi, Russia from February 7 to 23, 2014. In this event Russia won the maximum gold medals (Russia(13)).
  • Roger Federer on 1 March 2014 won singles title of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championship by defeating Tomas Berdych 3-6, 6-4,6-3 in the final. This is the sixth title win in past 12 years for Federer in Dubai and is also the 78th career title.
  • International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) on 2 April 2014 rejected the call of US senators to ban Russia from 2014 World Cup in response to Kremlin’s position on Ukraine. 
  • Arvind Bhatt won the men's singles German Open Grand Prix title 2014 on March. He also became the first Indian to win this tournament.
  • Stanislas Wawrinka won the Australian Open men's singles title 2014 by defeating Rafael Nadal.
  • New Zealand's  all-rounder Corey Anderson, on January 1, 2014, hit the fastest century in one-day international history, in just 36 balls against West Indies. He broke the record of  Shahid Afridi , who hit the century in 37 balls.
  • Squash player Joshna Chinappa won the Winnpeg Winter Club Open Title 2014.
  • Saina Nehwal won the women's single title of Syed Modi International Indian Grand Prix Badminton 2014.
  • Li Na won the Australian Open women's singles title 2014 by defeating Dominika Cibulkova (slovakia).
  • Sushil Kumar, the two time medal winner wrestler in Olympics, has received eight acres of land by Haryana government for setting up his academy at the Motilal Nehru School of Sports in Sonepat.
  • Churchill Brothers won the 35th Football Federation Cup on January 25, 2014.
  • Mahesh Bhupathi has launched the International Premier Tennis League(IPTL) in Melbourn, Australia on January 21, 2014. The IPTL is expected to start in Asia from December 1 to 20, 2014.
  • Terry Walsh has been appointed as head coach of the Indian men's hockey team. He belongs to Australia.
  • Kapil Dev has been selected for the prestigious Col. CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award for the year 2013 given by the BCCI.
  • Ricky Ponting, former Australian cricket team captain, played 168 test matches and captained Australian team in 123 test matches. He wrote his autobiography with title of At the Close of Play.
  • Kethy Cross has become first woman umpire on ICC panel, belongs to New Zealand.
  • Somdev Devvarman, the India’s top singles star on 23 February 2014 lifted his third ATP Challenge Tennis title after beating top seed Aleksandr Nedovyesov 6-3, 6-1 in the final of the USD 100000 ONGC-GAIL Open in RK Khanna Tennis stadium, New Delhi.
