- Fifth Indo-French bilateral air exercise, Garuda-V, begins at the Jodhpur Air Base.
- Celebrated erupt all over Hyderabad as the newest State of India. Telangana is born on the stroke of midnight. The 29th State, having population of over 3.53 crore, has an area of 1,14,849 square km.
- Mr. K. chandrasekhar Rao, the chief architect of Telangana agitation, is sworn in as the first Chief Minister of the newly formed State.
- Mr. Salvador Sanchez Ceren is sworn in as the President of EL Salvador. Mr. Sanchez is the first former guerrilla commander to lead the Central American country.
- The European Union, the US and the United Nations recognise the new Palestine unity government. Mr. Josh Gatt-Rutter, the EU representative to Palestine territories, assures Prime Minister Mr. Rami Hamadallah of the support of the 28-nation bloc for his new government.
- First India-China talks under the new Government are held in New Delhi between the visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Mr. Wang Yi and his Indian counterpart Ms. Sushma Swaraj.
- The Reserve Bank of India reduces the Statutory Liquidity Ratio (SLR) by 50 basis points to 22.5 percent w.e.f the fortnight beginning June 14. The move is aimed to provide banks more headroom to lend money.
- The first unit of the Kundankulam plant reaches its full capacity of 1,000MW, making it the single-Largest power-generating unit in the country.
- Ms. Sumitra Mahajan (71) becomes the Speaker of 16th Lok Sabha.
- The united States and the United Nations condemn the rape and hanging of two girls in Badaun district of Uttar Pradesh, criticising the apathy, shown by the State government. According to the World Travel and Tourism Council 2014 report, India's image is hit by incidents of rape.
- Pope Francis hosts an unprecedented joint peace prayer in the Vatican with Israeli President Mr. Shimon Peres and Palestinian Leader Mr. Mahmoud Abbas.
- The G-7 leaders meet in Brussels, for the first time without a Russian president since 1990s. The leaders warn Russia of facing further sanctions if it does not stop destabilising Ukraine.
- Wrestlers Yogeshwar Dutt and Sushil Kumar win Gold and Silver respectively at the International wrestling tournament held in Sassari city of Italy.
- Sri Lanka beat England by six wickets in the first and final One-Day International in Birmingham, England to clinch a 3-2 series Victory.
- Rafael Nadal of Spain beats Novak Djokovic of Serbia 3-6, 7-5, 6-2, 6-4 to win his 9th French Open title in Paris, France. He has become the first man to win at least one Grand Slam title for 10 consecutive years.
- Irish author Ms. Eimear Mc Bride wins the 2014 Bailey's Women's Prize for Fiction for her first novel A Girl is a Half-Formed Thing. Among the shortlisted books are Ms. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's Americanah, Ms. Hannah Kent's Burial Rites, Ms. Jhumpa Lahiri's the Lowland.Astronomers announce the discovery of a new type of planet- a rocky world weighing 17 times as much as the Earth. The planet named Kepler-10c circle a Sun like star once every five days.
- Scientists use Laser beams 60,000 billion times more powerful than a laser pointer to recreate scaled supernova explosions in the Laboratory to investigate one of the most energetic events in the universe.
- Federal Health officials of the US recommend that Americans at the risk of AIDS should take an antiretroviral daily pill, Truvada, which has been shown to prevent infection with the virus that causes it.
- Mahindra Group Chairman Mr. Anand G. Mahindra becomes the first Indian to receive the prestigious Harvard Medal. He was chosen for this award for his dedication, generosity and service to the university.
- Simona Halep becomes the first Romanian woman to reach a Grand Slam final in 34 years when she beats Andrea Petkovic 6-2, 7-6 (4).
- A.B de Villiers bangs four awards, including Cricketer of the Year 2014 in the Cricket South Africa Awards banquet.
- US President Mr. Barack Obama unveils a $1 billion US security plan for Eastern Europe aimed at allaying fears over a resurgent Kremlin and escalating pro-Russian uprising in ex-Soviet Ukraine.
