Current Affairs World Cup Fever, FIFA World Cup Brazil
As the 20th edition of FIFA World Cup moves on to the Land of 5-times champions Brazil, the football-crazy country and the world at large are looking forward to the 4-yearly bonanza, the ultimate competition in football. With hosts Brazil high on confidence after their Confederations Cup victory, european stalwarts preparing to showcase their talents and with Africa, Asia and other ever so keen to make their mark, the 2014 World Cup is bound to provide unprecedented excitement.
The final of the tournament, will be played in Rio de Janeiro's magnificent Maracana Stadium. The final rounds will be staged in 12 Brazilian cities between 12 June and 13 July, 2013. Brazil will become the fifth country to have hosted the FIFA World Cup twice, after Mexico. Italy, France and Germany.
The distribution by confederation for the 2014 World Cup the host country , 29 teams qualified from competitions in different confederations and 2 winners from play-offs will constitute the 32-team format of the final rounds. The play-offs will be: AFC's 5th placed team Vs CONMEBOL's 5th placed team and CONCACAF's 4th placed team Vs OFC's first placed team. 207 teams from 6 confederations started the qualifying rounds, the first of which was held on 29 June,2011.
Goal-Line Technology:
This will be the first World Cup ever in which goal-line technology will be used after its successful implementation in the 21012 FIFA Club World CUP in Japan.
Logo:
The logo of the world Cup is called 'Inspiration'. The design stems from an iconic photograph of three victorious hands together raising the world's most famous trophy.
The tatu-bola, an armadillo that defends itself from predators by rolling up into a ball, has been chosen as the official mascot. 'All in one Rhythm' will be the official slogan of the World Cup.
Official Ball:
The official baoo of the 2014 World Cup will be the Adidas Brazuka. By mid-September the following teams qualified for the last 32 stage: Brazil(hosts), Japan, Australia, Iran and South Korea from AFC, Netherlands and Italy from Europe, Argentina from South America and USA and Costa Rica from CONCACAF.
